How to feel like you're on vacation in your own town

We had absolutely no plans this Memorial Day weekend, but it turned out to be one of the best I've had in a long time. Springfield has started to open back up, which means we were able to get out and about more than we have in a while.
My weekend started with a much needed girls' night, eating mexican and drinking margs. We caught up on everything we've been doing/going through since quarantine and decided..."we need to do this much more often". Isn't it crazy how sometimes we don't realize the things we've been needing or craving until they're right in front of our faces?
On Saturday, Clint left really early in the morning to go fishing and I decided I'd sleep in a little bit...too many margs the night before ;). And that left me to spend most of the morning and early afternoon to do what helps me relax most: slowly drink my morning coffee while reading a book and/or watching some girly movies. When Clint got home that afternoon, we simply relaxed, made some Moscow Mules and a homemade meal, and enjoyed each other's company.
On Sunday, we woke up to no alarm. The weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Low to mid-70s with a slight breeze and we thought...we CANNOT just sit inside all morning. So we decided to go hit some golf balls at the range. And I. Am. Terrible. But it was such a good time because guess what? I didn't have a care in the world. No plans. My day was free. So when I'd get tired (or frustrated...lol), I'd just sit back on the lawn & relax while Clint did his thing. I had my iced coffee in hand. Life was good.
After that, we were feelin' pretty happy with our day and didn't want it to end quite yet. So we went to one of our favorite local bars: The Roost. If you're near the area and haven't yet tried a burger from The Roost...march yourself right on over there. You won't be disappointed. Pair that with some waffle fries and a cocktail (or beer, in Clint's case) and you've got the recipe for a good day. We took a nap that afternoon and ended the evening with more Moscow Mules and a movie.
Yesterday we, once again, woke to no alarm and began our day hitting up Bass Pro Shops for some last-remaining hiking gear needed for our trip. We started our Insanity Workout Challenge to get us in shape for this upcoming trip, cuddled with the pups, and enjoyed each other's company.
By now you may have realized what the majority of this post revolves around: the person (or people) you're with. Travel may be limited right now, or you may be too uncomfortable with traveling even if you're able to, but don't let that stop you from turning your everyday life into a vacation. If you're with the one(s) you love, then every day can be turned into something incredible and worth remembering.
Yesterday, after our golfing excursion and delicious burgers, I specifically remember feeling this...feeling...of euphoria. And then I came to the conclusion that the day literally felt like I was on vacation. We didn't have anything we HAD to do, the weather was beautiful, I was feeling incredible (which isn't always the case), and we were able to just spend the day together, doing things we enjoy.
Isn't that what a vacation is, anyway? You don't have to be in the mountains, or on a lake, or by the beach to be on vacation. If we all take a different approach at looking at our daily life, specifically when we have time off, then life itself could look like one GIANT vacation.
Yes, this is a super optimistic approach to looking at life, but why not try it? And when you do come across days like this, regular ol' days in your local town doin' regular ol' things with the one(s) you love, be sure to lock them in your memory bank. Don't forget that you have the choice of whether to turn your days into good days or bad days; your mindset determines a lot. I wonder how many good days (instead of bad ones) we'd have if we approached each day as a vacation? Maybe outside of the ones where you have to go to work... ;)
