If you've been following me for a while or know me personally, you know I'm a pretty simple girl. I'm not materialistic and it doesn't take much to make me happy. That's why I like to keep my makeup and skincare routine pretty minimalistic and LimeLife by Alcone has had a MAJOR impact in making that possible.
I had tried all kinds of drugstore makeup, and sure, I could *sort of* get the look that I wanted, but I always felt like my face was heavy; like there was just SO much on my skin even though I didn't feel like I was really using that much makeup. So while drugstore makeup is incredibly cheap, you're using a TON more product than you actually need to AND you're clogging your pores with chemical-filled products in the process.
This is why I decided to take the leap and try LimeLife by Alcone makeup. I was already hooked on the skincare (which I'll talk about my process/experience here in a second) and wanted to take that next step. It hasn't disappointed! However, I did go through a learning curve that started with my skincare routine. I pretty quickly learned that less is more...at least for me.
When I jumped on board with LimeLife, I was SO pumped to start trying everything that I pretty much...started trying everything. I ran full steam ahead. And, keep in mind, that my skincare routine prior was pretty much nonexistent; I was using body lotion on my face. So, my initial routine with LimeLife consisted of Quench Cleanse cleanser, Skin Therapy moisturizer, Skin Polish face mask, One Drop Wonder essential oil, Dew Date essential oil and then I topped it all off with Bamboo Renew, LimeLife's most abrasive exfoliating scrub...ON MY FACE. If that sounds like a lot...it is. And that's not to say that it couldn't work perfectly well for some women, but I was going into this ice cold...and my face felt it. My skin-cell turnover when into overdrive and my face was drier than it had ever been.
Now, I'm not saying this to bash LimeLife...that's the furthest thing from the truth. I LOVE my LimeLife, especially now that I've found a routine that works for me. Here's the key to skincare, my friends:
Just because a particular brand isn't working for you, doesn't mean it's not the right brand or product. It could simply be how you're using it/what you're using it with, aka...your routine.
It wasn't LimeLife that wasn't working for me...it was the combination of products that wasn't working and how quickly I jumped into using all of them at once. So, tip number 1 to getting that glow-y, beautiful look:
1. Go back to basics
If your routine isn't working for you, think about all of the products you're using. Is it too much? Then research those products. Do any of them have reviews about causing particular reactions in previous users? Sometimes all you need is a good cleanser, moisturizer and an occasional mask. This is what my routine now consists of. Plus I've added this amazing little tool to help exfoliate my skin. It's a much gentler way of exfoliating and is amazing at getting all of that extra makeup off that you don't even realize is still on your skin after you shower. No need for a makeup remover with this guy!
Getting that beautiful glow starts with skincare. If you haven't found the right routine, you're not creating a good base for your makeup. So no matter how high-end the makeup is that you're using, it's not going to make a difference if your skin isn't in good condition. Let's talk if you're still looking for a skincare routine that really works for you...I got the hookups. ;)
2. Listen to your body/skin
You may not hear it, but it's talking to you. My skin was talking to me in the amount of cellular turnover I was experiencing. I thought more exfoliation was what I needed in order to get rid of it, but NO. Over-exfoliation is a thing. And you don't get rid of over-exfoliation by exfoliating more...lol. You have to let your skin reset. That means dealing with the flaky-ness for however long it takes to let your skin bounce back. Then, as mentioned previously, get back to basics. Start simple and slowly work in more products to get your skin exactly where you want it. Right now, I'm still just using the basic three: cleanser, moisturizer and One Drop Wonder essential oil (with an occasional mask), but I plan on adding back in Dew Date to help achieve that dewy-glow even more. But I didn't want to do that until I knew my skin was in a good place, and it's definitely getting there.
3. Clean eating is essential
If you want that healthy glow, you can't just expect it all to come from your makeup and skincare. What we put in our bodies is SO important. When you consume a bunch of sugary, greasy food, you feel it in more places than your stomach. Your skin is never going to be in prime condition if this is what the majority of your meals consist of. Eat clean and your skin will thank you.
4. Natural is better, IMO
I am all about that natural glow; a natural look. And that isn't achieved by adding a ton of eyeshadow, eyeliner, crazy contouring, etc. All you need is a great foundation (see LimeLife by Alcone's botanical foundation...it's AMAZING), some shimmery blush and highlighter. In this look, I actually DIDN'T EVEN USE FOUNDATION. That's how amazing LimeLife's skincare is. All I had on was Perfect Blush - Keen and Perfect Blush - Glowing. And I mean...look how GLOWING my skin is. AMAZING.
This isn't to boast about myself...lol. This is to boast about how INCREDIBLE LimeLife's products are. My skin would not look this way if it weren't for these amazing products and a change in my eating habits.
There you have it! Four super quick tips on how to achieve that healthy looking, natural glow. It all starts with skincare and healthy eating. If you can achieve both of those, you're well on your way. And again, if you're still looking for that skincare routine that works for you...let's chat. ;)
